Craig Memorial: Extending God’s love far and wide!
Warm Up America staff recently caught up with Julia Kellejian at Craig Memorial Congregational Church, Paradise, CA. For the past three years Julia has headed the Warm Up America Ministry at this northern California church. We've written about this amazing group—they've designed a Warm Up America template as well as labels using iron-on ink jet transfers—in addition to stitching hundreds of afghans. We thought it was time that we'd check in with Julia to get an update. Following is her report:
"Our Warm Up America Ministry started three years ago, with over thirty contributors. We created more than 130 blankets in our first year, and distributed them to individuals and social service agencies in our community. We have now distributed more than 500 blankets to those in need.
Pictured holding just a small sampling of completed afghans are members of Craig Memorial's Warm Up America Ministry.
"Our work expanded in our second year of service, and we received a special commendation from the Craft Yarn Council of America and Warm Up America! Foundation for our outstanding work. The joy of our service is expressed in the smiling faces of our Craig Church contributors.
"This year we have about 35 volunteers and we added the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Sacramento to our list of recipients. In addition to needful individuals, the other organizations to which we have contributed blankets include: The Salvation Army, Family Resource Center, Foster Families’ Children, Homeless Youth Drop-in, Chico Torres Center, Oroville Rescue Mission, Sunbridge Care Center, Ramstein Military Hospital and College Hill."
Julia wanted everyone to know that all are invited to join this ministry. They meet weekly on Tuesday, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, in the Plymouth House Conference Room. Julia can be reached at 530-345-3040 for more information.
